Are you looking for a group where your child makes connections with other kids?
Are you looking for a group where your child's strengths are utilized to develop critical social skills?
Are you looking for a group where your child is embraced for exactly who they are?
Welcome to Bringing Therapy Home's social language groups!
Every Thursday night, kids enter Bringing Therapy Home and engage in activities that have been specifically designed to enhance and develop skills, such as:
Working together for a common goal
Taking turns by showing interest and making comments
Making decisions
Creating a plan
Helping each other accomplish a task by problem solving
Responding to unexpected events
As kids enter Bringing Therapy Home, they are given a choice of where they want to begin. Do you want to start in the gross motor room, the social-language room, the fine motor/constructive play room, the sensory room, or the language and literacy room?
Kids will learn how we work better as a group than we do alone. We are a community and we see the value in each other.
Kids work in teams of 4 to complete a variety of tasks. Each week, the kids rotate between 5 rooms - engaging in each activity for 25 minutes.
Maybe they create a maze together or play prediction activities. Maybe they build structures using fine motor manipulatives. Maybe they create an obstacle course or have a talk show.
We utilize a visual schedule, movement, objects to represent vocabulary and concepts, visuals, step-by-step communicators, and a communication device so that all children, regardless of their developmental level, can participate.
At our Overland Park location, our elementary group sessions are led by Marena Mitchell, a speech-language pathologist, additional speech-language pathologists, a special education teacher, and two group assistants. We have a 1:4 adult/child ratio.
The total cost for the 10 week group session is $450. Missed classes are not reimbursed. Once classes begin, refunds are not issued.
Gluten and casein free snacks are provided for and dietary restrictions are honored.
If this is your child's first time attending a group at Bringing Therapy Home, you will be contacted by one of the facilitators to discuss your child’s strengths and specific needs of your child. This information will be utilized to plan and develop the activities used for the group sessions. You do not need to receive current services from Bringing Therapy Home to register for the group classes. Group classes are open to the community.
If your child has an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) or receives services from an outside provider, please let us know what your child's goals are and we can embed the goals into the group activities.
To enroll your child in a group, please complete the registration form, located at the bottom of the page. Once the registration form has been submitted, you will receive a confirmation email. A $50.00 non-refundable deposit is required with your registration (the amount will be applied toward the class fee; however, if you cancel your child's registration, the deposit is forfeited).
Payments can be made by cash, check (Bringing Therapy Home, 13469 Switzer Road, Overland Park, KS 66213) or using a credit card at our center. Once payment has been received, you will be emailed a receipt.
If you need to set up a payment plan, please contact Bringing Therapy Home. We want your child/family to receive the support they need and offer payment plans if needed.
If you have questions regarding the group classes offered, please contact Bringing Therapy Home.
