Elementary Winter 2018 Groups
Ages: 5-8 years of age
Thursdays, January 4, 2018 - February 22, 2018
4:30-6:30 p.m.
Bringing Therapy Home offers fun, age-appropriate, interactive groups utilizing research-based curriculum for our elementary aged population.
Groups are designed for children ages 5 through 8 years old – this includes all children –typically developing children and children with needs (speech, language, fine motor, gross motor, or cognitive delays).
Our elementary group occurs on Thursdays for 120 minutes from 4:30-6:30 p.m.
Groups begin Thursday, January 4, 2018 and occur every Thursday through February 22, 2018.
Each class size is limited to 12 children.
The total cost for the 8 week group session is $360.
A snack is provided and dietary restrictions are honored.
Two weeks prior to the start of the group, you will be contacted by one of the facilitators to discuss your child’s strengths and specific needs of your child. This information will be utilized to plan and develop the activities used for the group sessions. You do not need to receive current services from Bringing Therapy Home to register for the group classes. Group classes are open to the community.
The group sessions are led by Marena Mitchell, a speech-language pathologist and Claire Mitchell and Debbie Horning, our group assistants.
If your child has an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) or receives services from an outside provider, please let us know what your child's goals are and we can embed the goals into the group activities.
To enroll your child in a group, please complete the registration form, located at the bottom of the page. Once the registration form has been submitted, you will receive a confirmation email. A $50.00 non-refundable deposit is required with your registration (the amount will be applied toward the class fee; however, if you cancel your child's registration, the deposit is forfeited). Missed class sessions are not reimbursed. Once classes begin, refunds are not issued.
Payments can be made by cash, check (Bringing Therapy Home, 13469 Switzer Road, Overland Park, KS 66213) or using a credit card at our center. Once payment has been received, you will be emailed a receipt.
If you need to set up a payment plan, please contact Bringing Therapy Home. We want your child/family to receive the support they need and offer payment plans if needed.
If you have questions regarding the group classes offered, please contact Bringing Therapy Home.

"Let's Do This Together"
In "Let's Do This Together," children will work in teams to complete different types of social skill activities.
Upon arrival, the children will participate in a large group activity where we will determine the plan for the night. Activities could include building structures together, playing a cooperative game, creating a game together, using our imaginations to create a "pretend" play activity, creating a dance move, or participating in gross motor activities together.
Concepts from Social Thinking will be emphasized, such as expected and unexpected thoughts, thinking thoughts about others, understanding the thoughts and feelings others are having, developing a group plan, keeping our brain and body in the group, sharing our feelings with others, identifying the zone we are in, regulating our emotions, and working together.
Each child will select a friend for the night and will have to remain with the friend for the duration of the evening. As they are working together, we will focus on using appropriate body orientation, responding to the peer, asking the peer questions, making comments, and asking follow-up questions.
The emphasis of our elementary group is working with a team - our motto will be, "We are in this together!"
